Welcome to the atari.archive.umich.edu CDrom. We hope you like it.
First, some information about the types of files you'll find on the ROM.
Extension Description
.TOS TOS executable. Runnable from the desktop/CLI
.TTP TOS executable. Runnable from the desktop/CLI
.PRG TOS executable. Runnable from the desktop/CLI
.APP TOS executable. Runnable from the desktop/CLI
.LZH Use lharc to extract the files in this archive
.ZOO Use zoo to extract the files in this archive
.ZIP Use unzip or STzip to extract this archive
.TAR Use GNUtar to extract this archive
.TGZ Use Gzip followed by GNUtar to extract this one
.TXT .DOC .LST Files readable in a text editor or using the desktop
.MSA Use the Magic shadow archiver to extract this
.ARJ Use the ARJ archiver to extract this.
You ought to find all the programs above in the `Archivers' folder on the ROM
together with docs on how to use them.
There is also a setup of 2in1 in the Twoinone folder on the root of the ROM.
This ought to make things a little easier when decompressing files. Note that
this is SHAREWARE.
Next: The ROM is a mirror of the vast majority of Atari.Archive.Umich.Edu in
the USA. (It actually comes to me via Imperial College, London, via the very
nice Lee McLoughlin). There are some empty folders on the ROM - Don't be
alarmed! A.a.u.e is just making room for further expansion.
And: There are various files starting with a 0 (zero). These are there for
your information. The 0 ensures they appear at the start of a listing.
The 0changes file documents any changes I had to make in order to fit the
unix-style name onto the CD. If you know something under a particular name
but can't find it, try looking in the 0changes file in the directory. The
0index file is a non-too-serious index of the files in that directory.
Finally, the text format of the ST range and a unix box is different. I hope
I've found all the text files and converted them to ST format. (Fingers
crossed :-)
Enjoy :-))
